Space - the final frontier. That is... nearly, as there also is the Free Trade Zone. You can find nothing like a final frontier, nothing like infinite space suggested by the ten densly packed solar systems in its center. Thus, the Free Trade Zone is the center of commerce, politics and culture in the known universe - although the Federation does not want this to be true. Here merchants still are merchants, intrigues still are intrigues and pirates still are free. And in exactly this Free Trade Zone lies the focus of all SpacePirates adventures.
The known space is segmented into ten sectors. Each sector resembles a hexagon of 100 lightyears width and 86 lightyears height. In the center of all those sectors lies the Free Trade Zone, governed by the Galactic Trade Council. Next to the Free Trade Zone, there is the two hexagrams sized „Neutral Zone“. Beyond that lies the Glucorianic Imperium. The Glucorians are an absolutely evil alien race, all other alien races (like the fruity Spacepears, the sexy Space Amazons or the plushy Stripeans) and the humans cohabit - more or less - peaceful. The center of power of each realm lies within their individual core worlds. The farther a colonial planet is from the core of its realm, the less civilized and controlled it is. In general, every spaceship may roam the sectors freely and land on any planet. But each planet may grant and revoke the right of passage to a spaceship on its own. The borders of all sectors are barely controlled - which, however, doesn't mean that there can't be found espionage sattelites or similar.
Distances in the outer space are great - even galactic. Thanks to modern over-lightspeed- and gravitation drives, this is not a big issue for exploring the space anymore. Distances are still measured in meters, with only the prefixes moved to a... slightly larger scale.
| Name | Symbol | Factor |
|---|---|---|
| yotta | Y | 10^24 |
| zetta | Z | 10^21 |
| exa | E | 10^18 |
| peta | P | 10^15 |
| terra | T | 10^12 |
| giga | G | 10^9 |
| mega | M | 10^6 |
| kilo | k | 10^3 |
Aside from the metrical system, distances are often given in lightyears. One light year is about 9.5 Pm (petameters).
„Der Weltraum - unendliche Weiten“ ist eine Erfindung der Startrek-Übersetzer. Das Original lautet „Space - The Final Frontier.“ Passt aber auch ;)
„plushy“ gibts nicht. Ein besseres Wort wird gesucht...
