Technology

Technology in SpacePirates gives you all you need to make space flights comfortable. Traveling through space and jumping from planet to planet with overlight speed is like a daily routine for every SpacePirate. Computers and flying cars are normal, and medicine can heal about every known disease.

Antigravitation

Jumping into the outer space was only made possible with the construction of a working Antigravitation Generator. This generator emits aligned gravitation- and antigravitation-rays, which allow to adjust a spacecraft's gravity to the requirements of its residents. They also are the fundamental technology for human spaceships' engines. By now, AGs can be built in all sizes and strenghts, which it made it possible to exchange normal cars and trains by much more energy-efficient gliders.

Data Networks

Due to the interstellar distances, data networks also had to further be developed. The most important way of communication is overlight radio, which allows to send data, pictures, videos and speech. An incredibly high transmission capacity allows to even spread whole 3-D-Websites. (By the way: the biggest and most common free data network is the Starnet). On bigger space ships, overlight radio is  a normality by now. Smaller ships need to rely on relais stations.

Energy Production

Energy production in the 40th century is extremely efficient. The most important sources of energy are fusion reactors on the base of Neutritium and solar power plants. Solar power, however, is prefered wherever possible, as the neutritium fusion releases extremely dangerous omega rays. But those reactors are the only known method to provide enough energy for hyperspace fields, without which overlight travel is not possible.
On planets in a close distance to a sun, energy is mainly won by solar collectors in a geostationary orbit. Bigger spaceships and space stations close to suns use a mix of solar and fusion energy. Smaller spaceships and all human habitats far away from the sun are depending on fusion reactors.
By now, thanks to the Universal Energy Cell (UEC) it is no problem, to store and transport energy. Micro-UECs also allow ultra portabe gadgets with a long duration, which is extremely important especially for computers and small arms weapons.

Genetics, Medicine

Medicine is also highly advanced. With available therapies, all known diseases are healable, though again and again, new diseases are brought home from the vastness of space. Due to advanced genetics, all organs and limbs can be bred and transplanted.

Spaceships and Gilders

In the universe of SpacePirates, gliders and spaceships have replaced all other means of transportation. Gliders are mainly used on planets and in proximal orbits. Of course, most gliders' engines are too weak to gain escape speed. They are the cars, trains and airplanes of the future.
Spaceships are made for long distance travels and have multiply redundant life keeping systems and drives. The basic equipment comprises barrier fields, shielding them from smaller asteroids, laser cannons and such. They usually have an FTL drive allowing interstellar travel. With their function as ocean liners of the future, big spaceships usually never land, but use space elevators and gliders for loading and unloading. Due to this, they are delivered in any imaginable shape and color, as such big spaceships don't have to be aerodynamic at all.
The overlight drive, also called FTL drive, allows flights with over light speed - that's why it's called faster than light. It surrounds the ship with a hyperbubble. Inside of this bubble, every object can move - seen from the outside - with a maximal speed of two lightyears per hour. Using weapons or sensors is, thus, impossible. Sensors can find hyperbubbles, but they can not see inside.

Space Ship Categories

Space Cruisers

Space cruisers are the biggest kind of space ships. They are gigantic an can serve thousands of people in the long run, which makes them more a moving city than a conveyance.
Space cruisers are built in space and are a completely self-sufficient station afterwards. This kind of spaceship cannot land on planets. For the carriage between planets and space cruisers, they have countless shuttles on board.
A space cruiser is usually used for colonization or combat. They are the mobile base for every major offensive and can defend important sites or destroy complete plantes. Their destructive power is enormous, and every other kind of space ship is chanceless in an open conflict. There is only a small amount of space cruisers. The army of the federation, for example, does only own five space cruisers.

Transport- and Battleships

Transport- and Battleships are notably smaller than space cruisers, but still they are much bigger than the greatest ocean liners. They also are too big to land on planets and hold countless shuttles. Space ships of this size are not self-sufficient, but they can get along for half a year without external supplies. A well equipped battleship are no match for a dozen hyper ships.

Hyperships and Hypergliders

The hypership is the most common space ship category. Those kind of ships can land on a planet, but also have an FTL drive. Greater hyperships also have one or two shuttles. They are able to fly from one solar system to another without having to restock supplies. On hyperships, up to 10 persons can live for a longer time.

Space Speeders

Space speeders are mostly used as shuttles or for very short trips within a solar system. They are made for short flights from a planet to its moons. Longer distances are accordingly uncomfortable. Those space speeders do not have FTL drives and are merely self-sufficient. The military models are stationed by the hundreds on space cruisers and also, in a small amount, on battleships.

Robots

Robots alleviate life in all areas. Their jobs are mainly dangerous and dirty, which humans can not do or do not want to do: Repair robots deal with the outdoor jobs on space ships and space stations. Robot sondes explore the space and discover new worlds. Conveyor robots independendly carry resources.
Due to their prior area of operation, humanoid robots are still an exception. It would be possible to built them, but it would not be too convenient.
The area of artificial intelligence made great improvements, which led to modern space ships think along and help the crew with navigation and other tasks. But also the best artificial intelligence is far away from forming an own conciousness.

Weapons and Protection

The most common weapons are laser pistols, guns and cannons. They can be ordered as compact hand weapons, sniper rifles or mighty board cannons for space ships. Other than lasers, there also are plasma rifles and powerful negatron throwers (resembling bazookas). Tachyon guns are the latest fasion, but not matured yet.
Projectile weapons are antiquated by now, and have been replaced by modern weapons for army, security and other other authorities. But for their reliability and robustness, they are still used in several areas, although they are not able to pierce through modern Protection and Shields.

The Antiphoton Projector

The Antiphoton Projector neutralizes the brightness of photons by emitting opposite antiphotons. Therefore it is neccessary to meet the correct black light frequencies. With cheap Antiphoton Projectors, this often doesn't work good enough, which means they often create a darker tint instead of the hoped for impermeable blackness.
Current Antiphoton Projectors try to not only create a dark spot, but a natural-seeming darkness. The most common methods these days are AES (Advanced Environmental Shadow) and NDP (Natural Darkness Processing). But none of both systems seems completely satisfactory. AES tends to hard, frayed darkness artifacts, whilst NDP suffers from hard color shifts on the borders. Due to this, miscellaneous companies are working on a better black light systems.

Anti Vacuum Field

The Anti Vacuum Field is based on the Quantum Diaphragm Technology. Subtronium-String-Emitters build a quantum diaphragm, which safely engulfs temperature and gaseous substances, whilst solid and liquid substances can pass without hindrance. In addition, they show a low energy consumption, work nearly maintenance free and are almost indestructible. These advantages makes them very popular.
This technology is already used in the military sector for a long time. First, it was used on carrier ships, to quicken the long and slow process of discharging battleships. In the civil sector, it was first used as additional means of security for supervisory and maintenance staff on mining asteroids.
Since then, energy consumption and size of emitters steadily shrunk, which lead to its use nearly everywhere: from luxury Space Cruisers with open top deck over Space Cabrios to Space-Choppers.

FTL Radio

Radiocommunication with over light speed is basically based on 21st century radio technology. For FTL use, the radio equipment is just attached to the hyper amplifier, which converts normal radio waves into tachyon rays. The amplifier consists of a Hertz wave communicator coupled with a ###Transisooveospule###, which oscillates in a field of pulsed delta rays.
The diffusion matter of the tachyon rays depends on the delta rays' pulse. On a too strong or a too weak pulse, the tachyons move, according to the Hawking-Brownstein-Effect, outside of the normal space time continuum. Unfortunately, in this case it can not be controlled, how long the tachyons are traviling, which means that the sent message could be received last week, in three years or in the Medium Mesozoic.
For a long time, this danger was ignored despite of the legal situation, as radio messages could be repeatet as often as wished for. This only changed, when several companies went into bankruptcy, because important data was recieved early. The most famous example is the intergalactical raffle organization Star-Lotto, which had its lottery results broadcast exactly one day before the deadline for sending in lottery tickets.

Gravitation Generator

Gravitation Generators were the prerequisite technoloty for developing overlight drives. Only their continous and controllable gravitation flow allows it, to contol hyper fields.
Normally, they channel gravitation. This makes it possible, to revert gravitation and create antigravitation. With this, the generator only creates the gravitation energy. The energy is only turned into heaviness or lightness when it comes into contact with accordingly polarized Aetritium crystals.
It is also possible to create artificial gravity on the inside of the ship, whilst keeping it with the help of artificial antigravity in a planet near orbit.

Hypercore

The hypercore creates the hyperbubble, which allows a spaceship to move with overlight speed. It consists of two Aetirium crystal banks, which themselves consist of centillions of parallel connected Aetirium crystals as well as one infrayellow and one ultragreen laser.
Several times per atto second, the Aeterium crystals' polarization is reversed from gravitation to antigravitation to create an ungravitation field. This field shifts all dimension within its reach by one phase. It is controlled by the bombardmend with infrayellow and ultragreen photons.

Space Suits

Space suits in SpacePirates are nearly as comfortable and lightweight as casual clothing. They consist of osmotic, super-isolating membranes, which are slipped over like a second skin.
At the same time, they give every protection expected from a space suit: interstellar iciness as well as solar heat are shielded with an efficiency of over 99.99 %, the pressure difference between its bearer and the vacuum is reliably compensated, and also the oxygen supply is secured. Thanks to a nearly complete reconversion from CO_2 to O_2 + C by the mouth and nose membranes of the space suit, it isn't even neccessary to wield a bulky oxygen cell.
Exceptional space suits are not only capable of refurbishing air, but also can change excrements to fresh water and dextrose. According to the manufacturer Osmobran, the Spaceskin™ Dextrosynth is a completely self-sufficient survival unit.
